Built in 1895 by prominent American businessman George Vanderbilt II, Biltmore Estate spans more than 8,000 acres and is home to forested trails, breathtakingly beautiful gardens, a French Renaissance-style castle and the nation’s most-visited winery. Don’t leave North Carolina without experiencing this incredible place nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

An architectural jewel, the castle at Biltmore Estate is one of the most prominent examples of Gilded Age mansions and holds no less than 250 rooms, including 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms and 65 fireplaces, each with their own style. Its impeccable gardens were designed by the same mastermind behind Central Park in New York City and are home to the country’s most complete collection of azaleas. The grounds also contain a vineyard, a working farm and 22 miles of hiking trails through lush green forests, open meadows and along the French Broad River.

As impressive today as it was at its completion more than 100 years ago, you’ll find you can spend a whole day exploring the estate. For those who’d like to stay longer, Biltmore’s tempting accommodations offer a weekend of rest and relaxation.
