The best time to enjoy the Northwest Territories scenery, go hiking and watch wildlife is May to September with the warmest temperatures and long days. The best time to see the Northern Lights in Northwest Territories is October to April with longer nights and clearer skies.

What is the official language of Northwest Territories?

English is widely spoken in Northwest Territories but there are also a wide range of First Nations languages in the communities.

What places combine well with Northwest Territories?

Northwest Territories can be combined with the Yukon to the west, and British Colombia and Alberta to the south. However, note that distances are great so flying between regions is more practical. Wood Buffalo National Park straddles Northwest Territories and Alberta.

What are the main cultural events in Northwest Territories?

Yellowknife has regular events. The biggest winter events are the Naka Festival in March showcasing First Nations culture, and the Snowking Winter Festival with fireworks, arts and sports. In summer, there is Yellowknife Summer Solstice and Folk on the Rocks.

Inuvik hosts the Inuvik Sunrise Festival to mark the return of the sun in January, and the Great Northern Arts Festival in July, showcasing Arctic indigenous culture.
