Trip suitability

This is a moderately active journey where you might find yourself hiking in rocky and hilly terrain. A moderate level of fitness and some walking experience is advisable. This trip is suitable for those travelling with children, but if you have a disability or special requirements, please call us and we will be able to advise accordingly.

Clothing & special equipment

For your time in Northern California’s National Parks, bring practical, comfortable clothing and a light-weight jumper or jacket. For the hiking, light and supportive walking boots with good grip are essential, and hiking poles can be an asset should you be intent on some serious hiking throughout your stay. Shorts and T-shirts are a must when travelling in late spring, summer or early autumn, as are a sun hat and sunglasses. Protective clothing such as a fleece and/or waterproof outer shell are also advisable at any time of the year. Weather

Northern California is a year-round destination. The summer and the shoulder months of April to May and September to October are easily the best times for visiting the region as all national parks will be open, and daytime temperatures will range between 17°C and 30°C, guaranteeing a pleasant stay.
