Start by exploring the city’s rich history and distinctive style – its colourful bungalows and laidback, retro vibe is what attracts visitors in the first place, so take a guided tour of the city or choose to visit during the bi-annual Modernism Week to get an introduction (or in-depth history) on its iconic mid-century architecture.

Palm Springs’ unique location is also an attraction in and of itself, so see the city from another angle by riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. This 10 minute journey on the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world takes you up 2,596 metres and down roughly 30 degrees in temperature to the Mount San Jacinto State Park. Look out over numerous viewpoints, have a meal in one of the restaurants or go hiking with over 50 miles of trails to explore.

For those who enjoy the great outdoors, Palm Springs is ideally located for hiking, 4x4 and horse riding opportunities. From driving along the San Andreas Fault to walking through the breathtaking beauty found in the nearby Palm, Andreas and Tahquitz Canyons, Palm Springs is even close enough for a day trip to Joshua Tree National Park. And while you’re outside, make sure to explore the cosy downtown life to be found on Palm Canyon Drive. Palm Springs is a haven for the arts and a stop by the Art Museum is a must with its contemporary and western collections. History buffs will be catered for too as the Palm Springs Air Museum has one of the world’s largest collections of flyable WWII planes.
