Wine Country California

California’s Wine Country FAQs

Find out all you need to know about visiting California’s Wine Country.

When is the best time to visit California’s Wine Country?

The best time to go to California’s Wine Country is during harvest season which occurs between the months of August and October. Seasonal activities abound from dinners, to dress up balls to grape crushing and spectacular autumn foliage is a given. The weather is also pleasantly warm this time of year with temperatures ranging from the high 20s in August to the low 20s by the end of October.

The next best time to visit is between the spring months of March to May. Springtime in Wine Country means the land will be in full bloom with plenty of gorgeous greenery. The season will start with chillier weather in the high teens but rise to the low 20s by May.

Summer is generally the peak season as many locals and tourists will be taking weekend trips to both Napa and Sonoma. The weather goes up to the high 20s, and while there are plenty of music and cultural festivals between June and July, the masses of people during this season make travel less enjoyable.

Winter is the area’s low season thanks to the chilly weather – highs are only in the low teens – and bouts of rain. Many wineries will however offer deals to draw in more travellers so if you want to make the most of this, you’ll be just in time for cabernet season which runs from November to April.
