Overview & Highlights

Discover the highlights of the majestic Canadian Rockies by luxury train and escorted tour on this exciting, varied journey from Vancouver to Calgary.

Begin in the diverse city of Vancouver by visiting the spine-tingling Capilano Suspension Bridge and the urban rainforest of Stanley Park before feasting on the city’s multicultural cuisine in historic Gastown and Granville Island Market.

Then board your luxury Rocky Mountaineer train to head into the mountains. Take in the stunning scenery on the way to Jasper via Kamloops from the comfort of your glass-domed coach and enjoy gourmet cuisine as you travel in style.

Cross into Alberta and explore the amazing scenery of Jasper National Park before enjoying one of the world’s best drives past the canyons, icefields and glaciers of incredible Icefields Parkway.

Gaze upon the shimmering turquoise Lake Louise, known as the ‘Jewel of the Rockies’ before enjoying afternoon tea at Fairmont Château Lake Louise, one of the world’s most stunningly located hotels.

Explore the surrounding mountains, lakes and waterfalls from Lake Louise to nearby mountain resort Banff, Canada’s highest town. Take the gondola up to Sulphur Mountain for a breathtaking panorama and watch for bears, moose and elk in Banff National Park.

Visit more lakes and waterfalls as you leave the Rockies for cowboy country and the cultural attractions of Calgary. Ascend the famous tower for panoramic views over the city, as your tour comes to an end.

The Rocky Mountaineer

Since its launch in 1990, The Rocky Mountaineer has become world-famous for its luxury train journeys through the spectacular scenery of Western Canada and the American Southwest. The train travels during the day, offering wonderful views of some of North America’s most dramatically beautiful terrain.

Both Gold and Silver Services offer wonderful panoramic views and delicious food, but upgrading to Gold Service allows you to see even more on bi-level glass dome coaches with outdoor viewing platforms, as well as enjoying gourmet meals prepared by executive chefs.

There are a total of three routes in Canada, bookable in either direction:

  • First Passage to the West: this route travels between Vancouver and Banff or Lake Louise via Kamloops, through the iconic Spiral Tunnels, mountain passes and dramatic canyons.
  • Journey through the Clouds: one of the most spectacular routes, between Vancouver and Jasper, along the Fraser River, through Hell’s Gate, past Pyramid Falls and majestic Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies.
  • Rainforest to Gold Rush: an alternative three-day route between Vancouver and Jasper via the Coast Mountains, the resort of Whistler, Fraser River and Quesnel.

Contact our travel experts to discuss a tailor made itinerary including any of the above routes.
