Capilano Suspension Bridge
In Northern Vancouver, Capilano Suspension Bridge stretches over 130 metres across a canyon, 70 metres above the river and park of the same name. Dare to walk across the vertigo-inducing bridge, but don’t worry – it’s reinforced with steel cables and can hold the weight of a 747 airliner.
Situated on unceded territory of the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, the bridge was originally built in 1889, and you can see First Nation totem poles and visit the park’s First National Cultural Centre, Kia'palano (meaning ‘beautiful river’) to learn of the park’s indigenous heritage.
As well as the bridge itself, you can do the Cliffwalk, a series of cantilevered walkways along a granite cliff above the river, and Treetops Adventure, seven bridges suspended by ancient Douglas firs, then explore the rainforest of the surrounding 27-acre park on guided walks.
