Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in the fascinating city of Vancouver
Pick up your motorhome and drive 24km to the Burnaby Cariboo RV Park for your first night. This highly rated park is ideal to explore the fascinating city of Vancouver. You will need several days to take in the city’s best sites but highlights to choose from include Stanley Park, the Harbour Centre, Queen Elizabeth Park, Granville Island, Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain.
Days 2-3 Explore vineyards and lakes in the Okanagan Valley
A long but worthwhile drive along the Trans-Canada Highway takes in the wonderful scenery of Okanagan Valley with chances to stop off at vineyards in Oliver, Penticton, Okanagan Falls and Kelowna.
Okanagan Lake has two large lakeside campgrounds (North and South Park), and the beautiful beaches are surrounded by ponderosa pines and sagebrush, ideal for swimming and water activities.
Visit the Othello-Quintette Tunnels just outside Hope to see the complex system of tunnels and bridges that took the old Kettle Valley Railroad through the canyon, then take a ride on Hell’s Gate Airtram over Fraser River.
Alternatively, to break up the journey, add another day and stop off and enjoy the thermal waters of Harrison Hot Springs.
· 335 km to Okanagan
Day 4 Enjoy breathtaking Rocky Mountain scenery in Revelstoke
A shorter drive today offers the chance to visit more vineyards. Head to the year-round Rocky Mountain playground of Revelstoke, surrounded by spectacular scenery.
Revelstoke is nestled high in the Monashee Mountains and adjacent to both Mount Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park, flanked by the snow-capped peaks of the Selkirk Mountains to the east and the Monashees to the west.
Visit nearby Salmon Arm for boating, swimming and watersports in the Shuswap Lake recreation area.
· 230 km to Revelstoke
Days 5-6 Discover Alberta’s jewels: Lake Louise and Banff
Cross into Alberta and a three-hour drive brings you to amazing Lake Louise.
The turquoise water of Lake Louise is one of Canada’s most iconic sites, an unforgettable setting for stunning photography.
Then explore the stunning mountain town of Banff. Either drive to Lake Louise Campground or you may prefer to stay in Banff itself.
Visit the Kicking Horse River where it flows below the Natural Bridge in Yoho National Park, take a scenic drive along the Bow Valley Parkway between Banff and Lake Louise, a quieter route with hiking trails and stunning viewpoints for photos.
Enjoy a meal or drink at Banff Springs Hotel and take in the spectacular view, take a trip on one of the gondolas to Sulphur Mountain and then enjoy a soothing soak in Banff Hot Springs.
· 230 km to Lake Louise
Day 7 Take one of the world’s best drives along Icefields Parkway
The road from Banff to Jasper is spectacular and framed by peaks rising over 4,000 metres.
Highlights of this incredible 335-km route include the Athabasca Glacier, the most visited on the North American continent. You can ride out onto the Glacier aboard an Ice Explorer or take a guided hike on the ice.
In Jasper, book a Maligne Lake Cruise where you will also cruise to Spirit Island, a world-famous destination accessible only by boat and a highlight of Jasper National Park.
We recommend a choice of campsites in either Jasper or Hinton.
· 335 km to Jasper via Banff
Day 8 Waterfalls and mountains in Wells Gray
Drive through magnificent scenery alongside Wells Gray Provincial Park and the Columbia Mountains. You’ll head for Clearwater, the final stopover on this itinerary before returning to Vancouver.
Clearwater is the gateway to Wells Gray Provincial Park, which has over 40 waterfalls including Helmcken’s Falls, and Mount Robson, the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies. En route to Clearwater, be sure to stop off at Blue River to enjoy the river safari and the chance to spot bears.
If you would like to be near Wells Gray Provincial Park and if you can get in (there are only 13 RV spaces available), then book into Helmcken Falls Lodge and RV Park.
· 320 km to Clearwater
Days 9-10 Explore multicultural Vancouver
Take the 4.5-hour drive back to Vancouver and the Burnaby Cariboo. We recommend you stay at this campground for three or four nights to fully explore Vancouver.
The campground has a bus stop with a half-hourly service into the city or you can take a 15-minute walk and catch the Skytrain. Vancouver is one of our favourite cities and definitely deserves some more of your time. Highlights include Stanley Park, the Harbour Centre, Granville Island, the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain. Return your vehicle to the depot as your tour comes to an end.
