Nearly 400km east of Vancouver, the Thompson Okanagan region encompasses two very different valleys – the dramatic landscapes and wildlife of Thompson and the lush wine region of Okanagan.
In the North Thompson Valley, highlights include Wells Gray Provincial Park, which has over 40 waterfalls including Helmcken’s Falls, and Mount Robson, the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies. Further south, the ski resort of Sun Peaks is equally alluring in summer with beautiful alpine scenery and renowned mountain biking trails on Tod and Sundance Mountains.
The Okanagan Valley is famous for its vineyards and farms, best enjoyed on guided tours. Kelowna and Osoyoos are beautiful towns to enjoy the local food and drink, then relax on lakeside beaches. Kelowna is the largest town in the region with hiking trails and spectacular views from Knox Mountain Park on the edge of town. Lake Osoyoos is the warmest lake in Canada, while the town has some 40 fine wineries, excellent restaurants and golf courses.
