Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge
Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge offers off-grid glamping in old-growth conifer forest on Vancouver Island’s pristine west coast, providing unforgettable opportunities to watch black bears, otters and whales.
Set among magnificent conifer forests on the calm waters of Clayoquot Sound, this lodge offers accommodation in a range of deluxe white canvas tents. Accessible only by seaplane or boat, Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge’s remote location provides an off-grid, technology-free environment to immerse yourself in nature.
Clayoquot Sound is a vast 100km-wide inlet of the Pacific Ocean, a UNESCO-protected Biosphere Reserve of remote inlets, private bays and islands surrounded by temperate coastal rainforest and old growth conifer forest. The reserve is home to some 300 animal species including black bears, cougars, mink and grey wolves. Marine life in the surrounding waters includes humpback and grey whales, orcas, porpoises and sea lions.
Accommodation is in deluxe tents styled in the spirit of turn-of-the-century prospectors, furnished with local designs with either rainforest or waterfront views, king-size beds, open plan lounges, open-air decks and either adjacent or in-tent ensuite bathrooms.
The lodge is situated on the traditional territory of the Ahousaht First Nation and has worked in partnership with this indigenous community since 1995 to celebrate and protect the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
Guests can choose from a range of wonderful excursions to explore and watch wildlife in the stunning surroundings, including boat trips, hikes, horse-riding, mountain biking, helicopter trips, fly-fishing, swimming and kayaking.
The Cookhouse restaurant features an open kitchen with a varied menu of locally sourced sustainable produce including fresh fish, crabs, scallops, foraged wild mushrooms, vegetables and berries. Guests can relax on the decks, enjoy a sunset over the Sound and sit around the fire in the evenings. The lodge also has a spa with hot tubs, sauna and a range of treatments.
Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge has its own programme funding sustainability initiatives, including protection of fish stocks and salmon spawning channels. The lodge has a new solar energy and battery microgrid system, the largest solar project on Vancouver Island, as well as extensive recycling, composting and organic gardening.
The lodge is open exclusively May to September.
