The Pacific Rim has some of the most dramatic landscapes on Vancouver Island with excellent wildlife-watching opportunities.
The Pacific coast is the wildest region of Vancouver Island with some of the most dramatic, protected landscapes. The main highlight of this region for many visitors is the wildlife – grey whales, humpbacks, orcas and sea lions. It’s also an excellent area to see black bears along the shoreline.
Tofino in the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve and Ucluelet in Pacific Rim National Park are the best bases to explore this wildly beautiful region. Tofino is famous for its surfing, pristine beaches and inlets easily explored on a kayaking trip. Nearby Meares Island has a 2,000-year-old cedar tree, the oldest in the world, and the Lone Cone trail, a steep ascent to enjoy panoramic views over Clayoquot Sound.
Ucluelet is situated on Long Beach, the most accessible part of Pacific Rim National Park, which covers nearly 50,000 hectares.
