Campbell River
Known as the ‘salmon capital of the world’, Campbell River is the gateway to the Discover Islands and the hub of Vancouver Island’s eastern coast.
Famous as the ‘salmon capital of the world’ due to the huge shoals of salmon from May to October, the town of Campbell River on Vancouver’s east coast is an attractive fishing port and the gateway to the Discovery Islands and Strathcona Park inland.
Hiking in the forests of nearby Elk Falls Provincial Park is a highlight of the region with a 25-metre waterfall and suspension bridge. Other good hiking spots include Beaver Lodge Lands and The Ripple Rock Trail.
Further south, the Comox Valley is famous for its food and wineries, as well as adventure sports on Mount Washington, while Parksville has some of the best beaches on Vancouver Island.
