Banff has a stunning setting with several trails such as Tunnel Mountain offering fantastic views of the town and valley. The Banff Gondola is a highlight, soaring 700 metres above the town.
The surrounding Banff National Park is Canada’s oldest protected area with over 1,600km of stunning hiking trails past glaciers, waterfalls, mountain peaks and shimmering turquoise lakes, notably the famous Lake Louise nearby. The park is also home to 53 species of mammals, including black bears, grizzlies, moose and elk, so Banff is a prime location for watching wildlife.
Banff town has an interesting cluster of museums – Banff Park Museum for natural history, Buffalo Nations Luxton Museum for First Nations heritage, while The Cave and Basin National Historic Site on the edge of town documents the discovery of the hot springs.
