The best time to visit Alaska is between May and September with the warmest weather, longest days, and the best opportunities to watch wildlife such as bears and whales. Winters are very long and cold with many roads impassable.

Altitude

Some areas inland are well over 1,000 metres so pace yourself if hiking.
